From Europe's first frequent flyer programme to the first airline alliance programme
On April 2, 1992, the Qualiflyer programme was originally launched by Swissair, in collaboration with Crossair and Swissôtel. Swissair's Qualiflyer was the first frequent flyer programme in Europe.
In 1998, Swissair founded an alliance with a number of other European airlines: the Qualiflyer Group. Shortly afterwards, Qualiflyer Loyalty Ltd. was established. The new company was intended to serve as a neutral platform featuring a clear and efficient cost structure that would operate the alliance partners' joint frequent flyer programme.
This made the Qualiflyer Group the first (and so far the only) airline alliance in the world to have its own frequent flyer programme fully integrating all its member carriers.
From 0 to 3.5 million members in just ten years
From Qualiflyer to three new programmes
When the Qualiflyer Group was dissolved Loyalty Gate Ltd. (the former Qualiflyer Loyalty Ltd.) created separate new frequent flyer programmes for Swiss International Air Lines, SN Brussels Airlines and TAP Air Portugal.
